Raising the Role of Students as Agents of Change in the Anti-Online Gambling Social Movement, Madiun State Polytechnic Students Pass Funding for PKM-RSH 2025

pnm.ac.id- Madiun State Polytechnic (PNM) students achieved another proud achievement. Through a proposal entitled "The Role of Students as Agents of Change in the Anti-Online Gambling Social Movement: A Social Identity Theory Perspective", the PNM student research team succeeded in qualifying for funding for the Student Creativity Program (PKM) in the field of Social Humanities Research (PKM-RSH) in 2025. The program is organized by the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa), Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology.

Based on letter number 1995/B2/DT.01.00/2025 regarding funding for the 2025 PKM Funding Scheme dated July 3 2025, Madiun State Polytechnic is one of 357 academic and vocational universities that have passed the funding. PNM is also in the top two of the 17 universities in the vocational class with the highest number of proposals that received funding, namely six proposals in four PKM fields of which the PKM-RSH Team was one of them.

The PKM-RSH team is a cross-disciplinary collaboration from several study programs at the Madiun State Polytechnic. The team leader, Siti Anisyah, comes from the Public Sector Accounting Study Program. Siti was assisted by four members, namely Nazwa Camila and Umi Latifah Nurhaliza Agustin from the Information Technology Study Program, Meisya Nurrosida Maharani from the Public Sector Accounting Study Program, and Anggi Meylani Putri from the Business Administration Study Program.

“This cross-disciplinary collaboration reflects enthusiasminterdisciplinary researchwhich is one of the important values ​​in strengthening research culture in vocational education." Said Niza Nurmalasari, S.S., M.M., one of the PKM supervisors.

Not only Niza, this team was also guided by Alfi Tranggono Agus Salim, S.Sc., M.T. Both are known to be active in social research, education and community empowerment.

The Online Gambling Phenomenon is the Background for the PKM-RSH Team's Research

Niza Nurmalasari, one of the supervisors, explained that the phenomenon of online gambling which is increasingly widespread among the younger generation, including students, is a serious concern for the world of education. For this reason, the Madiun State Polytechnic PKM-RSH Team is trying to explore the factors that cause student involvement in online gambling practices, as well as formulating effective educational strategies to raise collective awareness to reject this behavior.

Furthermore, the Head of the PKM-RSH Team, Siti Anisyah, explained that using a descriptive-based qualitative approachSocial Identity Theory, this research focuses on how students' social identities can form solidarity and joint action in anti-gambling social movementsonlinee.

"Through in-depth interviews with students from various universities in the Madiun City area, the team hopes to produce empirical findings that are useful in designing prevention strategies and empowering students to be wiser in using digital technology." Siti explained.

PNM Proves the Quality of Research and Social Concern of Students

Niza Nurmalasari said that this research is not only an opportunity for academic development, but also a real form of student concern for social problems in the digital era. "We want PNM students to be able to become agents of change who bring positive value to society," he said.

Meanwhile, Alfi Tranggono Agus Salim added that this research is in line with PNM's vision to produce vocational students who are adaptive and competitive. "This anti-online gambling student movement can be an inspiration for other campuses to create an academic ecosystem that is healthy, productive, and free from the negative influences of the digital world," he explained.

The PKM-RSH Team Leader, Siti Anisyah, also expressed her gratitude for this achievement. "We are grateful for the support from lecturers and campuses. We hope that the results of this research can be the first step in building student awareness to be more critical and resilient in facing the negative influences of the digital world, especially the practice of online gambling," he said.

As additional information, funding from Belmawa will be used to support all stages of research, starting from data collection, analysis using NVivo 15 software, to publication of research results in the form of scientific articles and educational digital campaigns on social media such as Instagram and TikTok.

The success of the PKM-RSH Team through research entitled "The Role of Students as Agents of Change in the Anti-Online Gambling Social Movement" is clear evidence of Madiun State Polytechnic's commitment to strengthening research culture and student social awareness in the vocational education environment.

Through this activity, students can not only hone their academic skills, but also become individuals who are sensitive to social issues and able to present real solutions for society.

This research also supports the resultsSustainable Development Goals(SDGs), especially SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and in line with higher education Key Performance Indicators (KPI) numbers 2, 3 and 5 which focus on improving the experience of students and lecturers outside campus.
